Having spent time engaging and listening to community members about ways to make City information easier to access, the City of Guelph released its ambitious One City. One Voice. Shared Purpose. plan in 2022. The document roadmaps the evolution of City communication for the next five years. The goal is to ensure that the City government is agile and responsive to modern service delivery.

With connections to the City's core values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness, and learning, the One City. One Voice. Shared Purpose. plan ensures that staff is working together for our future through a three-pronged approach:

  • Listen: A two-way communication method. We listen to communal opinions and share information about our learnings and findings. Our goal is to foster beneficial relationships and build trust.
  • Elevate: We are improving how we communicate and engage. Our aim is to serve Guelph from a place of curiosity, innovation, and growth.
  • Evolve:  We focus on innovative and inclusive communications and engagement using digital technology. We are consistent in learning about the words and images that should be used to represent our community's diverse populace.

The City is developing a work plan and schedule to meet the goals of the plan’s three pillars over the next five years. The plan’s impact will be measured and evaluated, and the City will share progress and updates as part of annual performance reporting.

This is a living plan, which means it’s responsive to community needs and external factors like the global COVID-19 pandemic. In the spirit of continuous improvement, the City is already looking forward to continued collaboration with community groups and organizations and seeing the positive changes this plan is intended to foster.
